Punk Rock

And it's revival with Green Day

After the 60s peak of punk along with the Ramones, the Sex pistols, and other 70s punk bands, punk went underground for 2 decades.

However, in the baronlands of Oakland, a small band consisting of teenage high schoolers called "Sweet Children" emerged.

The Sweet Children band will then develop into one of if not the biggest bands of the 90s "Green Day" filling in the vacumn grundge Nirvana left behind in 93, with their breakout hit album "dookie".

In Gilman street, inspired by Rancid's predessecor "Operation Ivy" who had two golden years in 1988-1990 along with other small bands like the look outs they develop the "East Bay" sound.

Unfortunately, the Ska titan, Operation Ivy disbanded after only one album and two years of performing, but left it's legacy on the punk bands it has influenced.

As Green Day skyrockets into mainstream media after signing with Warner Brothers and leaving Lookout records, many high school music enjoyers followed in it's punk footsteps and so comes the punk era of the 90s.

90s punk bands like blink-182, simple plan, sum41, the offspring all caught onto the punk uprising into popularity.
